COURSE DESCRIPTION:
It is vital to rescue victims during an emergency and account for personnel after the
emergency is over. This course will teach ERT members when and where it is appropriate
to search for potential victims. It will also teach ERT members and Floor Wardens how to
conduct building sweeps during evacuation emergencies. Additional topics include:
  • Scene Size-up
  • Search Techniques
  • Search Markings
  • Forcible Entry
  • Shoring & Cribbing
  • When to move a Patient
  • Patient Lifts, Carries & Drags
  • Mass Casualty Incidents & Triage
Triage, the French word for “sort,” covers the necessities of sorting patients by severity of injury after a disaster. Students are taught the fundamentals of START, the basic Triage system utilized throughout North America. Topics include:
  • When to initiate Triage
  • The four Categories of Triage
  • Sorting Techniques & Strategies
  • Treating Triage Patients
  • Mass Casualty Scenario
